Lincoln and Mitchell

Yeah, these are two "guys" we stopped to see.  The capital at Lincoln NB was viewed from our room in the Marriott Cornhusker Hotel in downtown Lincoln.  This was our first night of the two week trip.

The last night of the trip we did a small detour into downtown Mitchell SD to view the corn palace.  Carol is the little figure to the lower left.  If you have never been to this site, all the decorations on the outside are made from corn.  The artist's ideas are transferred to black roofing paper which is fastened to the building and then decorated with cobs, stalks, etc.  As we were driving further down the street, I looked back and the south wall has four more big designs!!  Don't forget to circle the building.

Other times when we have visited the corn palace, we have not been able to go inside.  It, too, is decorated!!  The main floor is used for basketball, rodeos, etc during the rest of the year, but during summer tourist season, they have all sorts of "corn" products and stuff from South Dakota.  Admission is FREE -- like that word.

One of the panels on the inside.  Probably 20x30 feet in size and on the upper walls of the interior.  This scene depicts pheasant hunting.  I saw one(1) pheasant in the field as we crossed South Dakota!!  That is more than the bears we saw (not) in Yellowstone (more later).
