Giraffes and 50th Wedding Anniversary

Ok, so the two items aren't related!!  This is a photo from a swim club (country club) that Sara and crew were able to experience, as someone they know is a member and you either HAVE to be a member or the guest of a member.  I'm just a big fan of the giraffes -- Sara and kids help alot, too!!

The 50th wedding anniversary was for Deane and Barbi.  They were married on Jan 23, but we celebrated at a club house on the 24th.  We had gone to KC on Sat to put in a new microwave at the KUMed address and so Carol could do some book shopping.  Spent the night with Larry and Sally.  Thanks again for the food, conversation and lodging.

For those who couldn't find the heron.

The heron sits on the corner of the far dock.  He or she has been there every morning and evening and often throughout the day.  Saturday evening a dock alarm went off at Mary K's(she was there but did nothing) and stayed on all night long.  Thank goodness the fan noise from the furnace blocked it out or sleeping may have been difficult.  Someone came out on Sunday morn and fixed it.  Carol wondered why she didn't hit the breaker to the dock.

Foggy bottom in Rocky Mount!!

Can you see the heron on the farthest dock??  Sabre is somewhere in the mist.  We started for KC at 7am but returned home before Versailles as the fog was THICK and the temps were dropping toward 32 degrees.  Hope your day is bright and sunny.

Frost

You have heard of frost on the pumpkin.  Well this is frost on the pump handle!!

Count the deer.

How many do you see??  They were between the 2 cathedral rock formations.
It is our excitement!!

Hidden picture -- ICICLES

This picture is hidden behind the tractor picture on the following post.  Tried everything I know to move it or uncover it but was unsuccessful.  Note how the icicles in the cathedral have become solid to the pulpit!!  Starting to form a solid curtain of ice across the rock formation.  The upper formation does have an almost full sheet to the right of center.  We are supposed to have a high of 7-9 degrees today, but our thermometer says it is 4 already at 7:30am.  HEAT WAVE!!

Jan 7, 2010 Tractor work.

The five inches of snow fell from Wednesday noon until late night and we woke up to a winter wonderland.  Yep, we were wondering when we would be able to get up to the top of the hill!!   I finally got the tractor started --had to charge the battery, as I left the switch on while repairing the lift mechanism, yesterday!!

The snow moved fairly easily with the blade behind the Ferguson.  Did do a "louie" on the main road blacktop.  I normally blade fast to the road and then lift the blade and turn around on the Hiway Y blacktop.  This time the road looked clear, but there was a sheet of ice on it and as I attempted a sharp turn to get back to the lane, I slid into the ditch on the other side of the hiway.  I was able to back down further into the ditch and get a "running" start at the blacktop and made it back to our road.  Enough excitement for this old guy for the day.  Did have to warm up twice, as the 10 degree temperature was not very friendly!!  So far the cove is staying clear with both of Cliff and Kathy's deicers running.  I think Ron Liebler still has Jay's running, too.

A nice treat as I was warming my tootsies -- 4 eagles flew around the cove for about 15 minutes.  Also spotted a lonely turkey on Sabre -- they normally are in a group of 10 - 20.

Stay warm for the next few days.  We might see 30 on Monday - yep, I've got my fingers crossed.
