This is "our" scene at 9am this morning. Carol said it was not snowing at 4am. I had cleaned off the end of the deck rail by the inverted pot at 8am and we have received another 1-2 inches. Forecasters had warned that we could get up to 2 inches per hour AND this might last most of the day!!! Sis called to see if I wanted to go walking, but we both decided it was a better day to cross country ski. Since neither of us has skiis we decided to PASS!!! Checked at 2pm and it looks like 15 inches so far.
Yes, I am bored already, so this a scene from inside looking toward the lake and shows the green sink pump on the rail outside. The table features 4 orchids, a bird book, Waste Watchers hat, and newest fish cookie jar. The sickly looking orchid in front has been in the "family" since Sara brought it home from the flower shop in KC in 2004. It usually blooms in early spring as the light gets longer, but doubt it will make it for 2011. The white orchid and the pinkish one coming out of the black pots are new purchases from Wal-mart (yes, Wal-mart). They were $14.95 each and were some of the healthiest looking plants we have seen in this area in a long time. We have normally purchased from Bird Orchids of KC at some of the home and garden shows in the past. The purple and lime green plant in the middle back is a FAKE orchid that Ron bought in Brasil.
The scope has been very handy to spy on the birds that frequent the lake. Our newest sightings are mergansers, coots, golden eye (ducks), 9 Canadian geese, eared grebes, mallards, woodducks, ring billed gulls, blue heron, turkeys, and an occasional bald eagle.
Last friday morning we noticed this boat (MO 7973FR, TeamPWPS.com, Precision Custom, 250 hp Suzuki) circling in the cove. I tried to catch him as he tossed a fairly large, weighted net which he then patiently watched as it sank and trapped 15-20 shad in each retrieve. It is the first time we have noted this type of fishing. Occasionally someone will come by at night gigging. They have bright lights and are really rather spooky to watch as all you see are the bright lights hovering over the water!! I think he must have been getting bait for the fishermen that swarmed over the lake on Saturday and Sunday!! As I was headed about 8:30am for Waste Watcher recycle and ReStore, Camdenton on Saturday I met at least 5 very fancy fishing rigs being towed toward the lake. Rather strange for the last weekend in January!! ttfn
