The most common sighting was the bison (buffalo). We began by stopping at every chance, but soon became more selective.
Without a good telephoto lens, most of the beasts were really in the "distance". I like the scene behind the bufs.
This shaggy beast was probably the closest we got to the critters. Other vacationers had stories about stopping on the road as the hairy critters walked in front of them and then between the cars. They could have petted them as the bison sauntered along.
One nice feature was a considerable number of baby buffalo. They were really cute and indicate that the herds will expand.
I took the picture of this raven to send to Eric for the Baltimore Ravens, however a couple of these big black birds figure in a later photo.
We did see a couple of white swans, but you may have to use your imagination. They are in the grass/weeds at the right edge of the photo about in the middle. I was going to walk closer until I hit some marshy footing, so decided to use discretion???
On the dead stump across the creek is a bald eagle. We watched for about 15 minutes as two ravens chased it into a tree and then proceeded to harass the regal bird until it finally flew off to another stump that didn't allow the ravens to get close.
Carol (note the birds on her shirt!!) was watching a lady with a camera AND telescopic lens. We bet she got some really good shots. She and her husband (from North Carolina) had seen ravens pick on crows before and were just as enthralled as we were.
We did get two fleeting glimpses of elk. One was a lone cow grazing in a secluded glen and the other was four cows down in a stream bed.
No bears, no wolves, no deer. We did see deer off the park.
