Lucas and the swirly straw.

Eric, do you remember the shirt??  Sara is unhappy with herself as their is a bleached spot somewhere on her favorite shirt!!  I just had to put another picture of Lucas in the blog.  He doesn't know how to suck long enough on the straw to get juice or milk, so dips the end and then with lots of dribbling puts the bottom end in his mouth.  Messy but really cute!!  Thanks again Kelly, Eric and Sammi for the dino straws.

Flowers at the Botanical gardens in Belo

I know it is out of order but these are Carol E's favorite flowers that remind her of Grandma Watson.  I don't remember seeing any white ones in the US, but I probably just haven't looked.  I think their name is gomphrena????  They look a lot like red and white clover to me!!

The Really Bad Road to MTC

On Wednesday May 5, 2010 I was working on the path to the recycle when Anna came down and asked if I would go with pastor Cornelius to get her car loose, that her husband, pastor Roche, had high centered on some rocks.  It is not obvious, but the passenger side front wheel is blocked by one big rock in the front and an even larger vertical rock just behind the wheel and up against the underside of the wheel well.  Cornelius jacked up the side of the car and we were able to remove the two rocks with some pushing, shoving and maneuvering.  We placed the flat rock under the front tire and drove the car onto the "road".  This is the worst spot in the mile long road to MTC but there are two more than are just about as rocky and rough.  The road has many potholes that are often full of water runoff from the irrigated fields.  We had ridden the VW minibus to get to this spot and we bounced back home with three of us on the front seat.  Pastor Roche was bringing Deborah to MTC to attend the seminar.

Yes, that is a white horse in the background.  They put front leg hobbles on the horses and let them eat the greens on the roadsides.

Laundry and Recycle May 2010 MTC

Laundry day included my Waste Watchers shirt and towels that Grandma Carol had personalized for the family.  The large towel with handprints was done by Sara and kids.  Most plastics are recycled however I have not seen any #6, polystyrene.  They save cardboard, paper, aluminum and tin cans.  I'm not sure about glass, as so far none has been in the storage area.  They save up a "load" and then a gentleman comes to MTC and buys the materials.  It saves up to 5 large trashbags per week in the normal trash cycle.  I'd like to get them into making a compost heap with the veggie, fruit discards (peels, stems, etc.) and coffee grounds.  They could probably reduce another bag per week.  Wem is considering starting a chicken coop to feed the food scraps to the chickens and harvest the eggs.  At one time the complex had pigs and cows and a large garden, but as the youth of the day are coming more from the city than the farm, the work ethic is not as reliable as it used to be.

Pathway to the Recycle Storage Shed, MTC May 5, 2010

First I leveled off the area by the side of the building.And put in pipes and boards to keep rocks from moving off to the downhill side.  Put in a couple of drain pipes and French drain rocks, etc to control water flow. Then blue plastic to stop the weeds.  Thought I had a picture with the 1 inch clean rock added but will have to add when I download the next time.

Puzzle Time

I hope the final post looks better than the preview, as we 3 are elongated!!

This was early in the morning and the sun is coming in the LR window while the boys who are still in Superman PJ's are working puzzles.  Both really enjoy them.
