Feb 26, 2011 Party

Erin made chocolate pies!!  Wonderful.  Yes, she is starting to "show".

Out in the greenhouse with Ron, Erin, Korbyn and Ayden.

Wemerson, your favorite guy is back in action!!  Alec likes Scooby-Doo so lots of stuff had this theme!!  These are doggy bone looking cookie treats.

Ayden had lost his first tooth this morning.  The "hole" is just to our right of his thumb.  He evidently was quite excited, but frightened the adults as it bled a lot before they found out the "rest of the story".  He is anxiously awaiting the tooth fairy.

FEB 2011 Birthdays aka Alec's

Alec turns 3 on Feb 28th and since he was the only February birthday of under 29 years of age, we celebrated his the "best" today.  He got to have his own chocolate cake with his name in M&M's.  I think Korbyn had reached up and swiped a couple of them before we got this shot!!  Ayden is "cheering" him on to blow out the candle.  He had 4 tries, as photos did not turn out as planned!!

A scene with Alec, Ayden, Korbyn, Ava, Kim and the back of Kristi's head.  In the background we have Lee, Savana (hidden on couch) Scott, Gary (way back), Aaron, Shannon, Erin, John and Carol A.  Yep!  The house was rockin'!!

From the other direction:  Aaron, John, Lee in front.  Shannon, Sam, Kristi, Carol A with Korbyn, Alec, Kim, Ayden.  We had seen some deer in the cathedral a little earlier.

Time for the birthday boy to open presents.  Look at the use of Alec's toes to keep the pile of presents from getting away!!  Ayden to the left and Ava to the right wish they had some to open.

The area rug is warmer than the tile for playing with Lincoln logs and some plastic building toys.  Korbyn, Ava, Carol A and Alec.

WATER!!

Ok, so the statue in a small town in the state of Minas Gerias, Brasil has nothing to do with water, but I needed something to brighten up this missive.  It is quite amazing to be riding in a bus from Montes Claros to Belo Horizonte and to look out the window and see this HUGE statue off to the side of a town that might have a two story building as its highest structure.  This may be their attempt to "rival" Rio's famous statue??

So, why did I title this WATER!!??
Monday, after the power came back on after an hour and a half failure, we noticed the water pressure was LOW.  Figured the breaker in Carlton's house (Gary and Pat's former home on second level) had tripped due to surge when electricity came back on.  Spent next few hours trying to reach Carlton who has been in Howe,Texas for the last year working on his house. All the phone numbers from John, Ron Liebler and ours were defunct.  Ron L finally found the name and phone number of the couple who watch the house for Carlton and they came over Monday evening and reset the breaker, so we could flush the johns and take showers.  UNFORTUNATELY when I got up Tues morn, we again had no water pressure.  I called and was able to borrow the key and get in and reset the breaker.  Decided to call Attkison Well people who came out and determined that the electric line from well house to Carlton's had a dead short!!  They couldn't believe the breaker had not tripped while they were there!!  We rewired the well pump to the rental house supply line, which had always been available as it was the original power source for the well pump.  When Gary and Pat put the house on the "hill"several years ago, they agreed to run power with the water line and share the well water.  This gave them water without the cost of drilling a well.
We were able to have water in the house during this interuption by hooking hoses up to Cliff's house and running it to our outside hydrant.  Didn't particularly like the light yellow color of the water, so only used it for flushing the johns.  Carried some drinking water in pitchers to make coffee, etc.
As you proceed thru the day, reflect on how many times you wash your hands, rinse a dish, flush the john, turn on the dishwasher, take a shower or bath, water the flowers/plants, get a glass of water, make coffee, etc.  It is really a pain in the behind to not have water on demand!!  So today, give thanks to that simple fact that we are blessed to have drinkable water at our fingertips.  Many in the world do not!! ttfn

Just Stuff, Feb 12, 2011

Carol snapped this last night.  You can see the lake is frozen over and covered with snow as you look out toward Sabra.  Cliff and Kathy's deicer is keeping the end of the cove open for ducks and herons.

Speaking of herons, this one is hunched over and trying to stay "warm".  We did see him/her catch a small fish.  We are playing with taking photos through viewing scope.  Haven't quite got it down yet.  The snow covered chunk behind the bird is the cable floater for Collie's dock.
We did take a drive around the lake today, just to get out of the house for awhile.  Stopped at ReStore in Camdenton, as Carol had never been there.   Had lunch at Milarkies in Camdenton then hit three antique stores as we worked our way to Versailles and finally Rocky Mount.  The warm weather and melting snow are WONDERFUL!

The car

The car about 3pm Tuesday afternoon, before the wind picked up.

I was an optimist and had cleaned a spot for the driver to see out!!

This time the cleaning did some good.  Didn't help anything, cause we can't go anywhere.

Since I can't do the roads as the tractor gets high centered and STUCK, I at least cleared the parking spot and the car for if and when we get out.  Dave Dagley is trying to clear at the top as I type.  I need to get dressed make sure he is ok.

Snow Days

This is out the cathedral window about 3pm on Tuesday, during the brunt of the storm

You could not see Camp Sabra peninsula most of the day.

The hand rail developed a funny "hat"

Location of the yard stick

Trust me, it says 14.5 inches and we still have evening snow to come.

Feb 1, 2011 SNOW DAY

This is "our" scene at 9am this morning.  Carol said it was not snowing at 4am.  I had cleaned off the end of the deck rail by the inverted pot at 8am and we have received another 1-2 inches.  Forecasters had warned that we could get up to 2 inches per hour AND this might last most of the day!!!  Sis called to see if I wanted to go walking, but we both decided it was a better day to cross country ski.  Since neither of us has skiis we decided to PASS!!! Checked at 2pm and it looks like 15 inches so far.

Yes, I am bored already, so this a scene from inside looking toward the lake and shows the green sink pump on the rail outside. The table features 4 orchids, a bird book, Waste Watchers hat, and newest fish cookie jar.  The sickly looking orchid in front has been in the "family" since Sara brought it home from the flower shop in KC in 2004.  It usually blooms in early spring as the light gets longer, but doubt it will make it for 2011.  The white orchid and the pinkish one coming out of the black pots are new purchases from Wal-mart (yes, Wal-mart).  They were $14.95 each and were some of the healthiest looking plants we have seen in this area in a long time.  We have normally purchased from Bird Orchids of KC at some of the home and garden shows in the past.  The purple and lime green plant in the middle back is a FAKE orchid that Ron bought in Brasil.
The scope has been very handy to spy on the birds that frequent the lake.  Our newest sightings are mergansers, coots, golden eye (ducks), 9 Canadian geese, eared grebes, mallards, woodducks, ring billed gulls, blue heron, turkeys, and an occasional bald eagle.

Last friday morning we noticed this boat  (MO 7973FR, TeamPWPS.com, Precision Custom, 250 hp Suzuki) circling in the cove.  I tried to catch him as he tossed a fairly large, weighted net which he then patiently watched as it sank and trapped 15-20 shad in each retrieve.  It is the first time we have noted this type of fishing.  Occasionally someone will come by at night gigging.  They have bright lights and are really rather spooky to watch as all you see are the bright lights hovering over the water!!  I think he must have been getting bait for the fishermen that swarmed over the lake on Saturday and Sunday!!  As I was headed about 8:30am for Waste Watcher recycle and ReStore, Camdenton on Saturday I met at least 5 very fancy fishing rigs being towed toward the lake.  Rather strange for the last weekend in January!!  ttfn
